It started off as just a single person in the corner, with a flushed face and embarrassed look at lunchtime. Then a few more popped up in hushed corners at work. I remember this kind of buzz when Sex In The City first became popular, but I was a bit too young to ride that band wagon. This book that has been the talk of the town for several months now was slowly invading my work and personal life. The women who were reading it seemed forever changed. They talked about sex toys I’d never heard of before. They confessed to asking their husbands to do things to them that ‘good wives’ never even thought of. This novel by E L James was transforming my co-workers into bondage explorers, and my friends into women who weren’t afraid to talk about what they wanted – openly.

I had avoided talking about the book – not so much because I was actively staying away from it, but a combination of working a huge amount of overtime and an ereader that had been acting up prevented me from diving into the book. Finally, though, the day has come. The time (and a new ereader for Mother’s day) is now. Soon, I’ll be slipping through the pages that will bring me into a world that’s resulted in increased sales of sex toys, a more open discussion of sex in relationships, and an upsurge in erotica sales in general.
For some reason, though, just reading this book didn’t seem good enough. I enjoy discussing what is going on in my life, and learning from the simple things in front of me. I decided to document this whole journey on a blog. I’ll be giving my thoughts on each chapter as I finish them, discussing the various articles that I come across on the internet, and diving into the details of the sex and bondage toys that seem to be a major part of the 50 Shades books. My own little shades of kinky sex. Luckily, my husband had a connection at Adam and Eve, one of the most popular sex toy retailers in the world, and they agreed to sponsor this blog. Without them, the domain, hosting, and theme I use would be non-existent.
Speaking of my husband, it’s probably a good idea to let you know that, yes, he is aware I am reading these books and discussing them. He also knows that there will probably be points in this blog where I discuss interactions between him and me when it comes to this book. As a matter of fact, a post that will be going up in a few days is a rather in depth discussion of what my hubby thinks of all this Fifty Shades hubbub and how it may or may not affect our own sex life.
So – here we go. Down this path of smut, lust and love. My Shades of Kinky Sex – open for your review.
