Here’s a basic question for you. Since it’s a Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, will there be three Fifty Shades of Grey movies released?
From what we understand, the movie that is coming out on Valentine’s Day doesn’t cover the entire 50 Shade trilogy over the course of one movie. In fact, it looks like it will only cover most of the very first novel – Fifty Shades of Grey. So what happens to Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed? That all depends on how well things go.
Assuming that the movie is the smash hit that everyone anticipates it will be, there’s no reason to believe that he 50 Shades trilogy won’t be completed with a second and a third movie. If the first movie makes back what has been spent on it (rumoured to be around $40 million dollars to produce) and turns a sizable profit, there’s little doubt that will be the case. Considering the books have sold more than 100 million copies, that shouldn’t be too hard to achieve. The fact that the movie is rated R, rather than NC-17 does bode well for sales, even if it does mean that Christian and Anastasia are going to have to tone down some of the hot and heavy action from the novels.
So what could throw a wrench in the 50 Shades of Gray trilogy not coming out as a movie trilogy as well?
Well, first would be getting everyone back on board. We already had a bit of a hiccup early in the movie’s production when the first Christian Grey, Charlie Hunnam decided to step down, with Jamie Dornan taking his place. One could assume they would also want the same producers and directors to come back on board, as well as the supporting case. If the movie takes off like a rocket, the entire team could ask for a substantial increase in salary for the remaining of the Shades of Grey trilogy.
When can we expect to see the other movies if they do come out? Assuming the first one does well, one could anticipate on production starting within months of the movie’s release – summer time the latest. Give it a year or so for production, we could be seeing another Valentine’s Day release in 2017 or so. The second or third part of the Fifty Shades trilogy could actually be released sooner, but with the tie in to Valentine’s Day, we doubt they’ll be vying for any other popular movie release date.
